Putri KW wins 21-12, 21-6 to reach New Delhi second round
The sixth-seeded Indonesian will next face Petra Maixnerova of the Czech Republic on Tuesday.
Putri Kusuma Wardani opened her BWF World Championships 2026 campaign with a convincing win over De Guzman Mikaela Joy of the Philippines. In the opening round at Indira Gandhi Arena, New Delhi, on Monday (17/8/2026), the Indonesian women’s singles player won in straight games 21-12, 21-6 to book a place in the second round.
Putri said her opponent was stubborn, especially in the first game when she had to adjust to the windy conditions on court. After that, the match became easier to control as De Guzman began to struggle with her shots in the second game. Putri, who arrived as the sixth seed, is also seeking to improve on her BWF World Championships 2025 result, when she won a bronze medal. In the second round, she is scheduled to face Petra Maixnerova of the Czech Republic.
