Purbaya inspects China steel plant in Pulogadung over taxes
The government suspects tax payments are out of step with the business scale and has sought documents for further verification.
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa inspected a China-owned steel company in Pulogadung, Jakarta, on Thursday (25/6/2026), after the government found initial signs of a mismatch between the scale of the business and the reported tax obligations. The government asked the company to submit documents and supporting data for further verification.
Purbaya said the step was aimed at enforcing tax compliance while maintaining fair competition in the national industry. He stressed the process was still at the clarification stage and had not concluded that any violation had occurred. The company’s management said its business activities were in line with regulations in Indonesia and it was ready to cooperate. Purbaya also asked the tax authority to speed up data collection and analysis, and said similar steps would be taken against other companies based on government monitoring.
