PTI sues Pakistan government after Imran Khan moved to state hospital

Khan’s party says authorities violated a Supreme Court order requiring treatment at a private hospital and access for his personal doctor.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) filed a contempt petition against the Pakistan government after Imran Khan was taken from Adiala Jail to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), rather than to Shifa International Hospital as ordered by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. PTI legal adviser Naeem Panjutha said the petition seeks action against the prime minister, the law minister, the information minister and other officials, while demanding that Khan be treated at the private hospital. Under a three-judge bench ruling on Tuesday, Khan was to be moved to Shifa in Islamabad within two days for a medical examination. Instead, authorities took him overnight to PIMS for a brief checkup and returned him to jail. PTI also objected to the denial of access to Khan’s personal doctor. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said the transfer to PIMS was made for security reasons.
