North Hub gas project starts construction, output due in 2028

The FPSO Bahtera Haluan Lestari has begun construction in Karimun to process gas from 16 wells at Geng North and Gehem.

The government launched the construction phase of the North Hub gas project in the Makassar Strait with the first steel cutting for the FPSO Bahtera Haluan Lestari in Tanjung Balai Karimun, Kepulauan Riau, on Thursday (23/7). The floating facility will serve as the gas processing center for output from 16 development wells in the Geng North and Gehem fields, then send it to the Santan Terminal through a 32-inch export pipeline. SKK Migas said the project is targeted to start production in 2028. Investment value has been cited at between 11.8 billion U.S. dollars and around 15 billion U.S. dollars in different statements, with about 2.9 billion U.S. dollars to nearly 3 billion U.S. dollars allocated for FPSO construction. The project is operated by Searah, a joint venture of Eni and Petronas.
