Proposal for Gibran diploma probe emerges, KPU denies rule slipped in
Golkar, Demokrat and NasDem have not backed the probe, while KPU's account clashes with Bawaslu testimony at the Constitutional Court.
A proposal to form a special committee in the DPR to follow up on the Constitutional Court ruling on Gibran Rakabuming Raka's education requirements has started to move, but it has not yet drawn cross-faction support. Commission II member from PKB, Eka Widodo, pushed for an objective verification of the Constitutional Court's finding that no high school graduation document was found for Gibran from overseas education equivalent to senior high school during the 2024 presidential race. On the other side, Golkar said there has been no formal proposal for a special committee, Demokrat said it has not received party instructions, and NasDem is still gathering views from regional leaders. Amid the dispute, KPU RI member Idham Holik denied that Article 18 paragraph 3 of PKPU No. 19 of 2023 was slipped in to clear Gibran. But the KPU explanation differs from testimony by Bawaslu chairman Rahmat Bagja at the Constitutional Court hearing, who said the article was not discussed during public testing or meetings with the DPR and only appeared at the harmonization stage.
