Pramono inaugurates Betawi Customary Council, Fauzi Bowo leads it
The body is set up as the sole umbrella for Betawi groups under the DKJ law ahead of Jakarta's 500th anniversary in 2027.
DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung inaugurated the Betawi Customary and Cultural Council at Balai Agung, Balai Kota DKI Jakarta, on Friday, with Fauzi Bowo as chairman. The move completes a long-running effort to organize Betawi customary institutions, based on Law No. 2 of 2024 on the Special Region of Jakarta. The DKI provincial government positions the council as a strategic partner to preserve and develop Betawi culture, including ahead of Jakarta's 500th anniversary in 2027. Antara reported the Betawi Cultural Customary Institution is expected to serve as the sole umbrella, or parent body, for Betawi organizations in Jakarta so Betawi community elements can unite under a more solid structure.
