Prabowo targets Sumatra-Kalimantan wildfire relief in 1-2 weeks

He said dozens of helicopters, dozens of planes, hundreds of pumps and thousands of personnel have been deployed; haze has reached Sarawak.

President Prabowo Subianto set a target to bring forest and land fires under control in several parts of Indonesia within one to two weeks. At the launch of the 100 GWp PLTS program in Jembrana, Bali, on Tuesday (25/8), he said conditions in several locations were starting to improve after the government deployed dozens of helicopters, dozens of planes, hundreds of drills and water pumps, and thousands of personnel. Several days earlier, Prabowo inspected a wildfire site in Limbung village, Sungai Raya district, Kubu Raya regency, West Kalimantan, after chairing a response meeting with ministries, agencies and local governments. He also called on all parties to remain alert to El Nino. Wildfires have recently affected areas in Sumatra and Kalimantan, and sent haze as far as Sarawak, Malaysia, prompting school closures to protect students.
