Prabowo assigns KAI, Transportation Ministry to build Trans Sumatra-Kalimantan rail
He wants the Sumatra line to run from Bakauheni to the island’s northern tip, with the Kalimantan project possibly starting at the same time.
President Prabowo Subianto assigned PT Kereta Api Indonesia and the Transportation Ministry to prepare construction of the Trans Sumatra rail line, to be followed by Trans Kalimantan. At the inauguration of the first-phase renovation of Semarang Tawang Station in Semarang on Thursday, Prabowo said the project in Sumatra is aimed at linking Bakauheni at the island’s southern tip to the northernmost area of the island. He also asked that the two projects begin at the same time if possible. In front of KAI CEO Bobby Rasyidin and Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi, Prabowo asked them to be ready to carry out the target. In his speech, he stressed that the rail network must expand, become more modern and serve not only major cities but also outlying areas and lower-income communities.
