Prabowo nominates Destry Damayanti as sole BI governor candidate
Destry must still undergo a fit and proper test in Komisi XI before she can be confirmed as the permanent governor.
President Prabowo Subianto has nominated Destry Damayanti as the sole candidate for Governor of Bank Indonesia in a presidential letter sent to the DPR RI. The move places Destry, who is currently Senior Deputy Governor of BI, as the definitive candidate to lead the central bank. Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Lembaga Penjamin Simpanan Anggito Abimanyu said Destry has a complete background because she has worked at the Ministry of Finance, LPS, and BI. Trimegah Sekuritas Indonesia chief economist Fakhrul Fulvian also said the choice is appropriate to maintain continuity in monetary policy amid challenges from inflation, interest rates, digitalization, the energy transition, and geopolitical uncertainty. The appointment now awaits a fit and proper test in Komisi XI DPR.
