Police arrest 11 suspects in illegal coal mining in Muara Enim

Police seized 4 excavators and 52 tons of coal; potential state losses are estimated at Rp95,9 miliar.

Muara Enim Police and South Sumatra Police have arrested 11 suspects in the dismantling of an illegal coal mining network in Desa Penyandingan, Kecamatan Tanjung Agung, Kabupaten Muara Enim. The enforcement took place on 8 and 10 July 2026 in the mining business permit area owned by PT Bukit Asam Tbk. Police said the suspects had different roles, from business operators and field supervisors to heavy equipment operators, drivers and helpers transporting the coal. Evidence seized included four excavators, five Colt Diesel trucks, about 52 tons of coal, one motorcycle, 11 cellphones and four invalid waybills. Police estimated the activity caused potential state losses of Rp95,9 miliar and said the investigation is ongoing to identify others involved, including financiers.
