Police uncover Rp36 billion counterfeit money factory in Tangsel
The 360,000 Rp100,000 notes were allegedly bound for two distribution routes, including mixing them with genuine cash for bank deposits.
Polda Metro Jaya uncovered a counterfeit money factory in Tangerang Selatan and seized 360,000 Rp100,000 notes with a total value of Rp36 miliar. Dirreskrimsus Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Victor Dean Mackbon said all of the evidence found used the 2016 rupiah design and had not yet entered circulation. Investigators are now examining the distribution plan and possible links to other networks. Police suspect the syndicate prepared two channels for the money: from the financier or party ordering production, and from the group making the bills with its own distribution network. The scheme under investigation includes mixing counterfeit money with genuine cash for deposits at private banks. Police also seized production equipment estimated to be worth around Rp1 miliar.
