Police probe possible negligence after diver dies at Porprov Jateng
Four witnesses, including medical staff and race overseers, have been questioned; early findings showed a large amount of water in the victim's lungs.
Polrestabes Semarang is investigating possible negligence in the death of Jepara diver Syabilla Rizkia Putri Raharja during the 2026 Porprov Jawa Tengah competition in the waters off Awann Costa, Semarang Barat, on Sunday (25/10). Semarang Police Chief Comr. Erlin Tan Jaya said investigators have questioned four witnesses, including medical staff, the motorized supervisor of the race area, and organizers. An initial medical examination found a large amount of water in the victim's lungs, suggesting Syabilla may have drowned, although the exact cause is still being examined. The 22-year-old athlete was believed to have become exhausted while competing in the 3.000-meter open water finswimming event. A day earlier, she won two gold medals in the women's 100-meter bifins and 200-meter bifins events for Kabupaten Jepara.
