Police name 49 suspects in riot after DPR protest in Jakarta
Five of the suspects are children, while 273 of the 322 people briefly detained have been released.
The Metro Jaya Police named 49 people as suspects in the riot that followed a protest at the DPR/MPR RI complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on 27 August. Of the total, 44 adult suspects are being handled by the General Criminal Investigation Directorate, while the other five are children in conflict with the law and are being processed through the Women and Children Services Directorate. Police said the designation came after the latest verification of 322 people who were briefly detained. Another 273 have been released after questioning. Previously, police announced 45 suspects in cases of vandalism and assault, and said three people who carried sharp weapons were part of the role breakdown in the case, not separate additional suspects.
