Polda Sumsel seizes 1.28 million liters of illegal fuel, 129 suspects
The force has processed 96 oil and gas cases, with 26 files cleared for prosecution and 24 others moving to the next stage.
Polda Sumatera Selatan seized 1,281,864 liters of illegal BBM and named 129 suspects in 96 cases of subsidized and non-subsidized fuel abuse from January through 27 July 2026. In a case uncovered at UPPKB Kertapati in Palembang, police also seized 107 operational vehicles used to transport and distribute the fuel.
South Sumatra Police Chief Sandi Nugroho said the crackdown was accompanied by efforts to legalize rakyat oil wells under Peraturan Menteri ESDM Number 14 Year 2025, with management schemes through BUMD, cooperatives, or UMKM after SKK Migas verification. The Polda Sumsel Special Criminal Investigation Directorate also recorded 11 illegal refinery cases with 13 suspects and 125,320 liters of oil as evidence. In an operation in Musi Banyuasin, four vehicles caught fire when the suspects allegedly tried to destroy evidence.
