PMI Prepares 200 Water Tankers for 2026 Drought
Jusuf Kalla said the El Nino-driven clean-water crisis could last until year-end, affecting Java, Bali, Sulawesi, Kalimantan and Sumatra.
The Indonesian Red Cross, or PMI, is preparing about 200 water tankers to help areas that could face a clean-water crisis at the peak of the dry season in 2026. PMI Chairman Mohammad Jusuf Kalla said the effects of El Nino-driven drought could last until the end of the year. In installing the Central Java PMI board at the Gradhika Bhakti Praja Building in Semarang on Friday (31/7/2026), he asked PMI officials and volunteers to remain on alert because the drought is disrupting both clean-water supplies and agricultural commodities. Kalla said the affected regions now include Java, Bali, Sulawesi, Kalimantan and Sumatra. In Central Java, Jateng PMI Chairman Haryanto said the organization has distributed 2,2 million liters of clean water to 16 regencies/cities through 543 tankers.
