PLN prepares 30-year power contracts for waste-to-energy

PLN will buy all power from the plants as investors from Indonesia and abroad show strong interest, BPI Danantara said.

PT PLN (Persero) is preparing a power purchase agreement scheme of up to 30 years for Pengolahan Sampah menjadi Energi Listrik (PSEL) projects. The plan is designed to give investors certainty in waste-to-energy projects across regions in Indonesia. PLN Director of Project Management and New and Renewable Energy, Suroso Isnandar, said PLN will be the offtaker for all electricity generated by developer partners. He said support from Peraturan Presiden Nomor 109 Tahun 2025 marks a moment to strengthen the power and waste-management ecosystem. BPI Danantara, through CIO Pandu Sjahrir, said investor interest in PSEL projects is very strong, including from abroad. CNBC Indonesia also reported the projects could attract up to Rp 90 triliun in investment and employ about 1.200 workers at each site.
