A small plane struck a Pennsylvania State Police helicopter near Carlisle Airport on Wednesday evening, killing the plane’s pilot and injuring two troopers aboard the helicopter. Authorities said the two-seat Cessna 150 was attempting to land shortly before 7 p.m. when it veered right and hit the Bell 407 from behind as the helicopter hovered near the runway during a training exercise. The helicopter lost rotor blades, rolled onto its side and roof, and trapped the troopers inside until Cpl. Bryce Corman pushed out a window and helped Trooper Jason Mills escape. Both were taken to Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center with minor injuries and were in stable condition. The pilot was not identified. The FAA and NTSB are investigating.
