PKB proposes raising House threshold to 5-7% for 2029 vote
The proposal runs counter to CSIS, which wants the threshold lowered to 3.5% in 2029 to preserve representation.
PKB has proposed raising the parliamentary threshold from 4 percent to 5-7 percent in a revision of the Election Law for the 2029 election. PKB deputy chairman Jazilul Fawaid presented the proposal at the DPR building in Jakarta on Thursday, June 18, 2026, as one of the points the party will press in the revision talks. He did not detail the reasoning behind the proposed increase. In 2024, the Constitutional Court ruled that Article 414 paragraph 1 of the Election Law would remain in force for the 2024 election, but must be changed before the 2029 vote. By contrast, CSIS political department head Arya Fernandes proposed a gradual cut to 3.5 percent in 2029 and 3 percent in 2034 to preserve representation without triggering legislative deadlock.
