Pertamina teams with West Java to turn Sarimukti waste into hydrogen

At Sarimukti landfill, methane will be refined into biomethane and then hydrogen, with Hyundai involved in technology development.

PT Pertamina (Persero) signed an agreement with the West Java provincial government to process waste into low-carbon hydrogen, biomethane and biofuel. One early focus is methane from waste at the Sarimukti landfill in West Bandung Regency, which will be processed into biogas, then refined into biomethane before being turned into hydrogen. Pertamina said the project is part of building an integrated waste-to-energy ecosystem and clean energy value chain. The work will involve Pertamina New & Renewable Energy and the gas subholding, from feedstock supply to distribution and commercialization. International partners are also involved, including Hyundai from South Korea. At the same event, the West Java provincial government began construction of a project to convert waste into electricity in Legok Nangka.
