Pertamina maps 13 CCS sites with 7.3 GT CO2 storage
Key project: CCS Hub Asri Basin has capacity for 2.9 GT to store domestic and regional emissions.
PT Pertamina (Persero) has mapped about 13 study sites for carbon capture and storage, or CCS/CCUS, in Indonesia, with potential CO2 storage capacity reaching 7.3 gigaton. The plan is positioned as part of the company’s dual growth strategy to support its net zero emission 2060 target or sooner. Emma Sri Martini, Pertamina’s director of portfolio strategy and business development, said the projects are spread across Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan and Sulawesi. One of the main projects being prepared is CCS Hub Asri Basin, with capacity of up to 2.9 GT. Pertamina is also targeting a role across the CCS value chain, from emission sources and capture to liquefaction, sea transport, storage injection and carbon monetization.
