Pertamina collects used cooking oil via cooperatives for SAF
Household and culinary waste oil is also being lined up for green gasoline, but refineries and processing technology must be ready first.
Pertamina Patra Niaga is expanding the collection of used cooking oil, or used cooking oil (UCO), through community channels, including cooperatives, to strengthen supplies of alternative energy feedstock in Indonesia. The feedstock is being prepared for products such as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for the aviation sector and green gasoline. Pertamina Patra Niaga Vice President of Corporate Communication Kitty Andhora said the scheme is intended to connect waste oil from households and culinary businesses with the needs of the processing industry. She said downstream development still depends on the readiness of refinery infrastructure and technology so UCO can be processed sustainably. Pertamina said the move also supports a circular economy by reusing waste as a value-added energy product.
