Pentagon seeks extra US$67 billion for U.S.-Iran war

The war cost has reached US$37,5 billion in five months, while 68 percent of Americans say the conflict is not worth fighting.

The Pentagon asked the Senate on Tuesday (21/7) for an extra US$67 billion for the United States' war against Iran, as the cost of the conflict was said to have topped US$37,5 billion over the past five months. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the additional funds were urgent so military operations would not face critical shortages. The request came as the Donald Trump administration also pushed for a total defense budget of US$1,5 trillion. During the hearing, which was briefly interrupted by antiwar protesters, Democratic senators questioned the need for more funding after the previous administration had claimed Iran's combat capability was weakened. A Washington Post-Ipsos poll cited by ANTARA showed 68 percent of Americans believed the war was not worth fighting.
