Pentagon cuts Iran war death toll to 14, dropping 4 recent troops
What's new: the public database also reduced wounded troops to 420 from 482, fueling questions over how post-ceasefire casualties are counted.
The Pentagon lowered its official Iran war death toll to 14 from 18, removing four U.S. service members killed this month in Jordan and northern Iraq from its public casualty database. The Defense Casualty Analysis System showed seven of the 14 deaths as hostile and, as of a Wednesday update, listed only deaths from March. ABC News reported the wounded count also fell to 420 from 482. The shift drew criticism from lawmakers and fresh questions about whether casualties after President Donald Trump’s April ceasefire declaration are being tracked differently as fighting resumes. Pentagon officials attributed the discrepancy to temporary data problems, but the figures remained unchanged Friday.
