Government grants Rp2,000/kg soybean subsidy via Bulog

The initial phase covers 250,000 tons to curb tofu and tempeh producers' costs as the rupiah weakens against the US dollar.

The government has decided to provide a Rp2,000 per kilogram subsidy for imported soybeans through Perum Bulog in an initial phase of 250,000 tons. The policy was adopted at a food coordination meeting in Jakarta on 9 June 2026 to help contain price swings in raw materials for tofu and tempeh. Coordinating Food Minister Zulkifli Hasan said soybeans, which are almost entirely imported, are highly sensitive to the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar. Perum Bulog President Director Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani said Bulog is still waiting for formal instructions and will discuss distribution mechanisms with relevant ministries and the soybean business association. In Banyumas, MSME operators said the subsidy could reduce production costs and help them keep selling prices steady amid rising raw material costs.
