Pekanbaru sets MURI record with 1-kilometer durian cake
More than 80,000 people packed Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, while 3,000 durians were handed out at the city's 242nd anniversary festival.
Pekanbaru set a Museum Rekor Dunia Indonesia (MURI) record by serving a 1-kilometer-long ketan talam durian cake on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman on Sunday as part of the city's 242nd anniversary celebrations. The festival involved hundreds of micro, small and medium enterprises to promote Riau Malay culinary specialties and to build ketan talam durian into the city's food icon. In addition to the one-kilometer cake, organizers also distributed 3,000 free durians to visitors. Tempo reported that the number of people who came exceeded the organizers' estimate, rising from a target of 5,000-10,000 to more than 80,000. Pekanbaru Mayor Agung Nugroho apologized for the traffic congestion and the limited cake and durian supplies caused by the surge in visitors.
