Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan won the Democratic primary for the state's open U.S. Senate seat, defeating Rep. Angie Craig in one of the party's most closely watched intraparty contests ahead of the midterms. The Associated Press called the race Tuesday. Flanagan, 46, had backing from prominent progressives including Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and Ilhan Omar, while Craig entered the race with a fundraising edge and support from Pete Buttigieg and Nancy Pelosi. The seat opened after Sen. Tina Smith decided not to seek reelection. On the Republican side, former sports broadcaster Michele Tafoya won her party's primary.
