PDIP stages drama marking 30 years of Kudatuli at DPP office
The Jakarta commemoration also included a traditional cleansing rite and poetry reading, while Megawati issued five instructions to cadres.
PDIP held a theatrical performance to mark the 30th anniversary of the July 27, 1996 riot, or Kudatuli, at the PDIP DPP Building in Central Jakarta on Sunday. The performance by Teater Gates depicted the assault on the PDI DPP office by a crowd from the Soerjadi camp backed by the New Order regime, while supporters of Megawati Soekarnoputri defended the party office. The event then continued with a national ruwatan ritual by the indigenous people of Kasepuhan Cisungsang and an Ngarengkong performance from Kasepuhan Cilebang. Artist Butet Kartaredjasa closed the series by reading the poem "Melawan dan Berjuang." A day earlier, PDIP circulated a DPP letter numbered 1347/IN/DPP/VII/2026 containing five instructions from Megawati to cadres, including rejecting slander and hoaxes in politics, upholding the supremacy of law, and rejecting militarization outside the main duties of the security apparatus.
