Partai Ummat meets Dasco, urges election law revision before 2029
The nonparliamentary party wants new rules to curb wasted votes, citing about 17 million in Pemilu 2024.
DPP Partai Ummat daily chairman Heikal Safar and DPP Partai Ummat secretary-general Taufik Hidayat met with Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad at the DPR RI building in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (19/7/2026). The meeting was part of a political outreach tour after Heikal formally took office for the 2025-2030 term and was aimed at revving up the party machine ahead of Pemilu 2029. During the meeting, they also pushed for a revision of the Election Law to accommodate the interests of both parliamentary and nonparliamentary parties. Heikal said the experience of Pemilu 2024 showed that about 17 million votes did not translate into seats, so the new draft rules are expected to prevent voters' ballots from being lost again.
