Nvidia commits $105 billion to OpenAI Ohio data center project

What's new: Nvidia will also invest $1.5 billion in SB Energy as SoftBank backs power and grid buildout for 10 gigawatts.

Nvidia will provide up to $105 billion in financing for a new OpenAI data center in Pike County, Ohio, and invest $1.5 billion in SoftBank-backed SB Energy, securities filings and company statements showed. The project at the PORTS-Pike Technology Campus will support an initial 4.25 gigawatts of computing capacity, with an option to add 3.75 gigawatts more. SB Energy will build and manage the site for OpenAI, while SB Energy and SoftBank plan to build power sources supporting 10 gigawatts of energy and put at least $4.2 billion into regional grid infrastructure. The deal deepens Nvidia's role in funding the AI infrastructure boom that consumes its chips.
