Nvidia backs Ohio OpenAI data center with up to $105 billion

What's new: OpenAI signed a 20-year lease for 8 gigawatts at the site, with service expected to start in 2028.

Nvidia will provide as much as $105 billion to support a massive data center under construction in Pike County, Ohio, that will be leased by OpenAI. The site, being built, owned and operated by SB Energy, a SoftBank subsidiary, could cost up to $500 billion and rank among the world’s largest. Nvidia said its backing will guarantee lease and power payments for 4.25 gigawatts of capacity, with room to expand to the full 8 gigawatts planned for the project. OpenAI said it will take capacity only as it is completed, meaning payments may not begin until the facility starts coming online in 2028. Nvidia also agreed to invest $1.5 billion in SB Energy.
