Norway's King Harald has died at 89 after being hospitalized in Oslo, ending a reign that began in 1991. The royal palace said Harald died peacefully at Oslo University Hospital at 6:35 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 28. In recent weeks, he had been treated with cortisone for haemolytic anaemia, a condition that reduces red blood cells and can cause fatigue and shortness of breath. As his condition worsened, members of the royal family gathered at his bedside and Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre canceled a planned trip to Germany. Crown Prince Haakon, 53, had already been serving as regent during his father's medical leave.
