Norway's King Harald, 89, moved into very serious condition

What's new: Queen Sonja, Crown Prince Haakon and Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere canceled engagements as the royal family gathered at the hospital.

Norway's King Harald V, 89, was in a very serious condition on Aug. 27 after his health deteriorated during a hospital stay in Oslo, the royal court said. Harald has been treated at Oslo University Hospital since Aug. 17. Sources differed on the underlying illness, with reports citing either a blood infection or haemolytic anaemia, a condition that lowers red blood cells. Queen Sonja and Crown Prince Haakon canceled all planned events and went to the hospital, where other family members also gathered. Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere called off a trip to Germany, and parliamentary leaders and bishops abroad moved to return home. Haakon has been serving as regent while the king is on leave.
