North Korea rejects FBI claim in $6.3 billion Binance hack

What's new: Kim Yo Jong called the allegation a “grave political provocation” and warned Pyongyang may rethink dealings with Washington.

North Korea pushed back Tuesday on the FBI’s claim that a state-backed hacking unit stole about $6.3 billion from cryptocurrency exchange Binance, calling the accusation a hostile political attack. Kim Yo Jong, the sister of leader Kim Jong Un, said the United States was trying to brand the DPRK a “cyber criminal state” and mislead international opinion by tying global cybercrime to Pyongyang. The FBI said over the weekend that the North Korea-linked group TraderTraitor carried out the theft, which would rank as the biggest crypto heist on record. Binance, the world’s largest crypto exchange by trading volume, has said it covered most of the stolen assets with company funds. The dispute lands as President Donald Trump has floated renewed summit diplomacy with North Korea.
