No Kings rallies push early voting in hundreds of US events

What's new: The protests shifted from anti-Trump marches to turnout drives as legal fights over ballots intensify before Nov. 3.

The No Kings network held hundreds of rallies and community events across the United States on Saturday aimed at getting people to vote early in the midterm elections. Events in Washington, Atlanta, New York and other cities mixed protest imagery with voter outreach, as organizers tried to turn nearly two years of anti-Trump demonstrations into turnout efforts. Organizers described the day of action as nonpartisan and barred candidate endorsements and speeches by current candidates. Indivisible co-founder Ezra Levin said the coalition had moved beyond sending a message and now wanted people to cast ballots. The push came as the Trump administration escalated disputes over election rules, including a lawsuit seeking to stop California from counting some mail ballots while citizenship checks are pending and a Justice Department warning to local officials handling such ballots.
