Nigeria traces 44 contacts after Ebola case confirmed in Abuja
Why it matters: The case widens a fast-growing regional outbreak that has infected more than 9,500 people and killed over 4,600.
Nigeria confirmed an Ebola case in Abuja after a woman who arrived via Uganda tested positive, prompting authorities to trace 44 contacts tied to the patient. The woman developed symptoms on Oct. 7 and was admitted to a private hospital in the capital on Oct. 11, where she was later diagnosed. Uganda's Health Ministry said she only transited through the country and had been on a business trip to eastern Congo, adding that Uganda has no active confirmed cases. The case puts Nigeria among the countries hit as the Bundibugyo outbreak spreads across Africa; Kenya reported its first case earlier this month and now has nine infections.
