Netanyahu rejects Gaza truce as Israel resumes strikes, 26 killed

Qatar, Egypt and Turkiye say Israel is obstructing a second phase that would include Hamas disarmament.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected a ceasefire and troop withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, while the Israeli military resumed strikes on the territory even as the ceasefire agreement remained in effect. In two days of attacks over the weekend, 26 Gaza residents were reported killed. The Israeli outlet Israel Hayom, cited by Anadolu Agency, said Netanyahu conveyed the rejection during a meeting with Board of Peace representative Nickolay Mladenov on 3 August. Under the second-phase plan already accepted by Hamas and Palestinian factions, Hamas weapons would be dismantled and Israeli forces would withdraw after that process is completed. Qatar then called on the international community to pressure Israel, while Qatar, Egypt and Turkiye jointly condemned attacks on civilian infrastructure in Gaza.
