Nepal-Tibet flash floods kill 160, leave 400 missing

About 10,000 households need urgent aid as roads, bridges, power lines and hydropower plants are damaged on both sides of the border.

Flash floods that tore through the Nepal-Tibet border valley have killed more than 160 people and left nearly 400 missing. Nepal police have recovered 157 bodies from Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Chitwan, Gorkha, Tanahun and Nawalparasi East, while moving families away from flood-prone areas. In Tibet, Chinese state media reported at least three deaths and 265 people still missing. Torrents from the Himalayas swept away riverside settlements, toppled bridges and damaged power networks. OCHA said about 10,000 households in Nepal need immediate assistance because road access has been cut and infrastructure, including hydropower plants, has been damaged.
