More than 100 migrant workers in Singapore seek help over unpaid wages
What's new: Authorities are probing KPA Engineering and SK Industries and letting affected workers seek new jobs while the case is reviewed.
More than 100 migrant workers went to Singapore's Ministry of Manpower service center in Bendemeer on Monday, saying they were owed wages and facing housing problems after their employers stopped paying them. The ministry said the workers were employed by KPA Engineering and SK Industries and that both firms are under investigation for possible breaches of employment law. Workers told local media they had not been paid for two to three months, with some claiming they were owed as much as S$4,000. The Ministry of Manpower and the Tripartite Alliance for Dispute Management said they were arranging housing and meals and allowing the workers to look for new employers while the case is handled.
