Mochamad Irfan Yusuf pushes 30 hajj dormitories as umrah hubs
The ministry wants the facilities used year-round so they do not only absorb budgets but also generate state revenue.
Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mochamad Irfan Yusuf is pushing for more than 30 hajj dormitories in Indonesia to be repurposed so they are used not only during the hajj season but also as service centers for umrah pilgrims and as state assets managed more productively. After inaugurating the SBSN 2025 Building at the Class I Banjarmasin Hajj Dormitory in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, on Friday, Irfan said many facilities have not been used to their full potential throughout the year. Of the more than 30 hajj dormitories, only about 16 currently function as departure embarkation points. He also cited the model in Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta, which during this year's hajj season was able to send pilgrims directly from the international airport without needing a hajj dormitory.
