MLB warns 3 Giants pitchers over Bible verses on Pride caps
What's new: Vice President JD Vance and a San Francisco supervisor weighed in as the dispute spread beyond baseball.
Major League Baseball warned three San Francisco Giants pitchers after they wrote a Bible passage on Pride Night caps, saying the added writing broke league uniform rules. Pitchers Landen Roupp, JT Brubaker and Ryan Walker wrote “Gen 9:12-16” on caps featuring a rainbow Giants logo during Friday’s game.
Roupp told reporters the verse referred to God’s covenant and was not intended as hate. MLB chief communications officer Pat Courtney said the league had warned the players about future violations, describing the response as consistent with normal practice.
The dispute drew political reaction outside the clubhouse. San Francisco Supervisor Matt Dorsey criticized the players for using Bible verses to make a political point, while Vice President JD Vance mocked MLB’s warning in a post on X.
