MK halts challenge to Polri’s place under President

The Mahkamah Konstitusi granted the withdrawal of a petition challenging Law No. 2 of 2002 on Polri, which sought to move the police from under the President to under the Ministry of Home Affairs. The order in case No. 63/PUU-XXIV/2026 was read by Chief Justice Suhartoyo in Jakarta on Wednesday, and the case was declared withdrawn. The petition was filed by Christian Adrianus Sihite, Syamsul Jahidin, and Edy Rudyanto against Article 8 paragraphs (1) and (2) of the Polri law. In an early June hearing, Syamsul Jahidin said the petition was withdrawn after the petitioners concluded that Polri would be more independent if it remained directly under the President, in line with recommendations from the Polri Reform Acceleration Team they also cited.
