Minnesota sues Abbott to force extradition of ICE agent in shooting

What's next: The state wants a judge to block Christian Castro's release from a Texas jail before the 90-day detention limit expires next week.

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison sued Texas Gov. Greg Abbott in federal court Tuesday, seeking to force the extradition of ICE agent Christian Castro to face charges in a January shooting in Minneapolis. Castro, 52, was arrested in Texas in May on Minnesota charges including assault and falsely reporting a crime. Prosecutors say he fired through the front door of a home, wounding Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis in the leg, then falsely claimed Sosa-Celis and Alfredo Alejandro Aljorna attacked an ICE officer with a broom handle and a snow shovel. Ellison also asked the court to stop Cameron County from releasing Castro, arguing he could be freed next week under Texas' 90-day detention rule.
