Micron lifts US chip investment to $250 billion through 2035

What's new: The company also committed up to $3 billion more, including $500 million for GlobalWafers' Texas expansion.

Micron raised its planned U.S. investment to $250 billion through 2035, increasing the total by about $50 billion as demand for memory used in AI systems continues to climb. The company also detailed a new strategic investment package of up to $3 billion, including $500 million for Taiwan-headquartered GlobalWafers to expand wafer development and manufacturing at its Texas facilities, alongside a 10-year silicon wafer supply agreement. Micron shares rose 7% after the update. The company said construction is underway on two new fabs in Boise, Idaho, and that it poured the first concrete for a new plant in Clay, New York, which it described as the largest semiconductor manufacturing site in U.S. history.
