Meta weighs up to $10 billion Anthropic compute lease
What's new: The proposed two-year deal would let Anthropic pay monthly for spare capacity, with both sides able to exit early.
Meta Platforms is in early talks to lease computing power to Anthropic in a potential agreement worth as much as $10 billion over two years, a source familiar with the matter said. Anthropic, the maker of Claude Code, proposed the deal in June, and Meta is considering it even though it does not currently run a business selling compute capacity. The terms could still change, and the discussions may not produce an agreement. The arrangement would give Meta a new revenue stream beyond advertising as demand for AI infrastructure surges. Meta shares closed down more than 2% Friday in a broader tech selloff, then slipped only marginally in extended trading after the report.
