Meta restored No Kings Instagram after AI traffic tripped bot rules

What's new: Meta said a Claude tool hit profiles, posts and hashtags at about four times the normal rate, prompting a mistaken 90-minute suspension.

Meta said an automated security system wrongly suspended the Instagram account of the No Kings Coalition during nationwide demonstrations and an early-voting push before the Nov. 3 midterm elections. The company said its engineers found that activity linked to an Anthropic Claude tool was reading profiles, posts and hashtags in short, intense bursts on Oct. 17 at about four times the normal rate, behavior its systems flagged as likely bot traffic. Meta restored the account after an automated review about an hour later, though administrative access took longer to return. No Kings said the page was unavailable for about 90 minutes and called Instagram a key channel for reaching supporters.
