Menteri P2MI proposes special enforcement unit to combat TPPO
The proposal was raised at a Komisi IX DPR meeting after the ministry said it is often held responsible for nonprocedural migrant victims.
Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers Mukhtarudin proposed creating a special law enforcement unit within the P2MI Ministry to combat human trafficking cases involving Indonesian migrant workers. At a working meeting with Komisi IX DPR in Jakarta on Friday, July 17, 2025, he said TPPO cases remain widespread and complaints often end up at his ministry, even though handling them involves many institutions. Mukhtarudin said the TPPO response task force also includes Polri, TNI, the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections, and the Ministry of Law. He stressed the need to distinguish TPPO from nonprocedural departures of migrant workers, which often lead to human trafficking. Komisi IX also asked that information on trafficking indicators be included in education on procedural overseas placement.
