Menhaj targets Baubau fish for Saudi hajj meal supply
The government will next study shipping, packaging and Saudi rules before Southeast Sulawesi products can enter the hajj supply chain.
Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mochamad Irfan Yusuf said fish products from Baubau, Southeast Sulawesi, are suitable to supply the food needs of Indonesian hajj pilgrims in Saudi Arabia. He made the assessment during a visit to the fish processing line at PT Buton Indo Tuna on Saturday, from receipt of raw materials to packaging. According to Irfan, the opportunity is open, but the government still has to resolve technical issues, especially shipping, packaging and compliance with regulations in Saudi Arabia. The move is linked to President Prabowo Subianto's push for the hajj ecosystem to help drive the national economy through regional flagship products. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah then assigned the Directorate General for Development of the Hajj Economic Ecosystem to prepare further studies and a concrete cooperation scheme.
