Mendagri urges local governments to waive taxes, permits for subsidized homes

BPS data show about 38,000 households in Papua still lack housing, with the greatest need in Kota Jayapura.

Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian asked local governments to waive the Bea Perolehan Hak atas Tanah dan Bangunan and provide free Persetujuan Bangunan Gedung for subsidized housing for low-income residents. In Jayapura on Monday, Tito said the relief would cut project costs and encourage developers to build more homes for residents earning around Rp4 million to Rp5 million. He also said housing development would spur investment, create jobs, and increase local revenue from Pajak Bumi dan Bangunan as vacant land is converted into residential areas. BPS head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti added that about 38,000 households in Papua still do not have homes, with the largest number in Kota Jayapura.
