Manpower Minister pushes vocational training, reskilling for downstreaming

Kemnaker says 148 million people were employed in May 2026, while the open unemployment rate stood at 4.65 percent.

Manpower Minister Yassierli placed competent workers at the center of efforts to ensure Indonesia's downstreaming and industrialization agenda adds value at home. At the 81st anniversary of RI in Jakarta on Monday, he said industry needs are changing rapidly amid digitalization, artificial intelligence, automation, the energy transition and the emergence of new industries. The Ministry of Manpower is focusing on four steps: strengthening vocational training, internships and certification; building a more adaptive labor market through job matching, reskilling and upskilling; expanding inclusive access to jobs; and reinforcing regulations and industrial relations. Sakernas data for May 2026 cited by Kemnaker showed about 148 million people were employed, with the open unemployment rate at 4.65 percent.
