Megawati hosts South Korea, UAE envoys to discuss Korea and Abu Dhabi
South Korea's envoy will relay the talks to President Lee Jae-myung and said Megawati would fit a special peace envoy role.
PDI Perjuangan Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri received separate visits from South Korea's Ambassador to Indonesia Yoon Soon-gu and the United Arab Emirates' Ambassador to Indonesia Abdulla Salem Al Dhaheri at her home in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Monday, July 13, 2026. In her meeting with Yoon, the discussion focused on peace efforts on the Korean Peninsula. Megawati recounted her experience after being given a peace envoy mandate under President Kim Dae Jung, including a proposal for family reunions for those separated in Panmunjom and inter-Korean economic cooperation. Yoon said the experience was important and would report the discussion to President Lee Jae-myung. After that, Megawati met with Al Dhaheri and discussed continuing ties with Abu Dhabi after her visit to the UAE in February.
